In addition to full time dental hygienists' income, dental hygienists may receive dental hygienist benefit packages from their dentist/employer. A dental hygienist's benefit package includes such boons as health insurance coverage, membership dues for a professional organization, paid vacations, sick leave and tuition assistance for dental hygienist continuing education (all benefits varying substantially by practice setting).

Almost all full-time dental hygienist employed by private practitioners, according to the American Dental Association (ADA), received the benefit of paid vacation. The ADA found as well that 9 out of 10 part-time and full-time dental hygienists received dental coverage. It is also notable that dental hygienists employed by school systems, public health agencies, the Federal Government and state agencies typically enjoy considerable benefits.
